Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome. The 2008-2009 Intramural/ Extramural after school athletic program is approaching. It is offered to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade boys and girls. In the Intramural program, River Trail students compete against one another in various activities during a fall, winter, and spring term.

The intramural program will run Monday through Thursday after school from 4:00 to 5:00.

Morning intramurals will begin at 7:00 am until 8:oo am. The morning intramurals will consist of activities that are based on student numbers and interest. (See the back of the intramural sign-up form for more information about morning intramurals.)

The Extramural program involves River Trail seventh and eighth grade boys and girls competing against other North Fulton County Middle Schools in the following sports: tennis, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and track. In order to participate on an extramural traveling team, seventh and eighth grade students must participate in 80% of the tryouts for that respective team. The tryouts are part of the intramural program.

Sixth grade students may only compete in the intramural school program.

Students may pick up new intramural/extramural sign-up forms at the beginning of each term (fall, winter, and spring) and the form will have all activities available for that term. The fall term will begin on September 3th. Intramural/extramural sign-up forms will be available in the Physical Education Department or on the River Trail Web Page.

The form must be signed by a parent. In addition to the intramural sign-up form, a two page, intramural registration form will be included for parents to fill out. This registration form only needs to be filled out one time for the entire school year!

There will be a late activity bus ( Sweep Bus ) that will provide students with transportation after intramurals. The bus is available Monday through Thursday, and there are three central locations where students can be dropped off. The bus will leave River Trail at approximately 5:00 PM. A list of the drop off locations will be available for students. Parents will need to give permission for their child to ride the late activity bus on the back of the intramural registration form. If
parents are going to pick up their children after intramurals, please be at school no later than 5:00 PM. Thank you!

Any seventh or eighth grade student chosen to play on an extramural traveling team must have a physical exam form on file in my office before he/she can actually participate in a contest. Physical exams are valid for one calendar year. If your child had a physical over the summer, I will only need a copy of the exam form. Students who choose only to participate in the intramural program do not need to have a physical exam on file. Aside from physicals, there is no cost to
participate in the intramural/extramural program.

In addition to the regular intramural activities, there will be a Fulton County Middle School Tumbling Demonstration that is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls. Physical exams are not required for the tumbling demonstration.

The coaching staff and I are looking forward to working with your children this year. If you have any questions, please contact me at River Trail, (770) 497-3860, or by e-mail, meyerj1@fultonschools.org.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Joey Meyer
